Oxford Nanopore employs from multiple subject areas including nanopore science, molecular biology and applications, informatics, engineering, electronics, manufacturing and commercialisation. The management team, led by CEO Dr Gordon Sanghera, has a track record of delivering disruptive technologies to the market.

Oxford Nanopore's sequencing platform is the only technology that offers real-time analysis, in fully scalable formats from pocket to population scale, that can analyse native DNA or RNA and sequence any length of fragment to achieve short to ultra-long read lengths. Our goal is to enable the analysis of any living thing, by anyone, anywhere!

We are looking for a motivated scientist to play a key role in the development of a new generation of devices aimed at getting our nanopore sensing technology closer to the point of care. As integral part of the Liquid Biopsy Platforms team you will make significant contribution to the integration of new sensing chemistries and functionalities into this new family of devices.

The Details...

The new devices in development aim to enable the sequencing of samples directly from complex biological fluids, such as blood and saliva. You will take a leading role in the adoption and integration of new sequencing/sensing strategies, in close collaboration with other teams across the Research Division. You will also be responsible for the development of assays aimed at improving our understanding of biological samples, such as DNA in complex backgrounds. You will be expected to contribute to the development of microfluidic methods for sample handling and preparation.

Duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Planning and running of experiments and broader studies.
  • Carry out in depth data analysis and performance evaluation.
  • Clear and timely reporting of findings.
  • Assisting the design and implementation of integration strategies.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across R&D to achieve results.
  • Presentation of results in a clear and concise manner.

What We're Looking For...

A PhD (or equivalent experience) in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or related subjects is required. Experience in the development of biochemical assays is essential for this position, as is good attention to detail. Familiarity with DNA sequencing and lab-on-a-chip technologies are highly desirable. Demonstrable industry/post-doctoral experience is preferred.

We will expect you to be an enthusiastic individual with a creative approach to problem solving and good attention to detail. You will be able to work with a high degree of autonomy and in close collaboration with others. The multidisciplinary nature of the project requires the Scientist in this position to be able to communicate in a clear and concise manner with colleagues across the company.

This role will suit someone with the drive to achieve results and who is motivated to impact a key area of a cutting-edge, fast-paced organisation.
